This is Gran, catching up with a friend. She loves to keep in touch but has glaucoma, macular degeneration and partial hearing so finds it difficult to use mobile phones. We plug the handset into the iPhone for her, and such a simple adaptation makes all the difference. With the handset, chatting to a friend is exactly what it should be: comfortable and familiar. I spend a lot of time with my Gran, and do my best to help her with practical things, like writing and posting letters for her. I thought a handset would help her use the phone, so I suggested she give it a go. She is reluctant to learn how to use new things - especially when small buttons are involved - but when there is no "training" involved, and she can simply use something, she is happy to give something a go.
